Buzz is caught!

Sammy was lucky enough to win a little Buzz Lightyear at a white elephant exchange during Christmas. Buzz must be losing his touch because when he thinks no one's around, I've walked in and caught him in some pretty strange places!
Trying to set Rico free in Santa Rosa.

Doing a fancy flip out of the train basket.

Not sure if he's saving a runaway train here or just playing conductor.
(Did you know the caboose is where the conductor's "office" is traditionally located?)

Better work on your timing, Buzz. I'm beginning to think you're not just a toy after all!

Worth Blogging About

It's too early to tell if this is a comeback, but it's a good time for a post. Today is my birthday, and Keenan's folding laundry while I get to do what I want. Somehow, this won out. Here's what's worth blogging about:

Birthday
It's been a very nice day. Keenan made me a stunning breakfast of buckwheat pancakes (soaked overnight in yogurt), sunny-side up eggs, delicious buttery oven-roasted potatoes, and yes, chocolate chip cookies for breakfast dessert (don't tell me you've never heard of that). We haven't had any chocolate since January, and the goal was to go without until my birthday. Needless to say, we've been excited! The cookies were otherwise naturally sweetened, and every bit as good as we'd remembered, but they lacked the same appeal as before. I've only eaten HALF as many as I should have! Goodbye chocolate weakness?!

This evening, to celebrate the Cinco de Mayo side of May 5, we went to a great little Mexican restaurant in Pasadena called El Cholo. We took a picture with Dusty afterward.

For my birthday, I got a dehydrator, which I am SO excited about. Now I can dry my own fruits and veggies, make jerky, yogurt, and fruit leathers, soak and dry my own nuts, sprout and dry my own grain, among other things! We kicked the microwave out of its spot to make way for this beauty. I love it!

Easter
Easter was lovely. We dyed eggs (sorry, Earth!) the night before, and let Sammy hunt them down before church. Unfortunately, we didn't leave quite enough time for an egg hunt worthy of a two-year-old, so he was rushed along a bit. We were still late. See here:

He unwittingly put all his eggs in one basket, and yes, at least half of them cracked.

Our good friends, Pianoman, Violadiva, and baby Maestro, joined us for Easter dinner, for which I attempted a stuffed leg of lamb (couldn't let two nice musicians starve!). I even boned the leg myself! It turned out pretty well, and good thing too, because a five-pound leg of grass-fed lamb is a once-a-year purchase. I win the hyphen prize.

Daniel
Last Sunday, Daniel turned 8 months, and he started scooting around for the first time! Witness the exciting moment:

Today, we definitely felt a little spiky tooth cap on the bottom right. Sher told me that Vitamin D really helps babies cut teeth. Daniel's been working on these luggards for some time, and I finally gave him some cod liver oil this week (one of nature's best sources of Vit. D), and voila, a tooth appears! Maybe it was just time anyway, but I have a hunch it helped. Hope some other baby might be spared a little suffering with that info!

Daniel is my love. I call him cheerful and eager. Keenan calls him exuberant, outward, and enthusiastic. He wears his heart right there on his sleeve. We just love him. He deserves a post of his own very soon, so stay tuned.
